General Description:

The Chamber President provides executive oversight for strategic, operational, and financial performance of the chamber. Cultivates positive relationships with chamber partners, regional economic development and tourism entities, elected officials, media, and the community as directed by the Board of Directors. The President coordinates and implements the many activities of the Chamber of Commerce through various committees and supervises the work of the staff and volunteers in the pursuit of meeting the chamber’s goals and objectives.

As President, you will represent the chamber and its membership in all interactions. The President reports to the Chamber Board of Directors. It is the responsibility of the President to keep the Chamber Board working within the guidelines of the established By-Laws holding all accountable to following the guidance and laws found within.

Hours:

40+hrs/week, generally Monday-Friday, 9am to 4pm, and events outside of normal work hours as scheduled. This position is considered full-time and may have some flexibility regarding hours.

Strategic Responsibilities:

• Identify and develop strategies to improve regional commerce. Review and update these strategies on a regular basis to determine relevance and effectiveness.
• Execute the Strategic Plan as directed by the Chamber Board to drive the mission and vision of the Chamber.
• Foster partnerships with the other key organizations with the objective of implementing cohesive and comprehensive plans to promote growth and prosperity in our region.
• Provide oversight of chamber committees to ensure they are working towards Chamber goals and objectives meeting growth avenues.
• Recruit and retain chamber partners by consistently providing value to the membership and the business community at large
• Complete regular membership visits, ascertain the status and needs of partners, evaluating the role the chamber can play in supporting the individual health and success of its partners.
• Coordinate multiple fundraising events with the goal of increasing annual participation and income.
• Develop and execute a marketing plan with leads to the following:

o Cultivates interest in the region from target markets
o Creates partner, community, and tourist engagement through events, community involvement, and promotional activities
o Increase revenue to chamber members
o Generates funds to support chamber infrastructure
o Incorporates the use of technology, marketing, and social media
• Administrative/Financial Responsibilities:
o Work with the Board of Directors to create an annual budget
o Prepare accurate and timely financial records for the chamber, including but not limited to monthly and annual financial statements, accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll, and tax filings
o Maintain expenditures within the framework of the budget
o Hire, train, supervise, and mentor chamber team members, manage the dismissal when needed of team members, keep the employee handbook, holding employees accountable
o Oversee the contractual obligations of the chamber with other entities
o Participate in state and local events, meetings, and pertinent organizations
o Prepare monthly board agenda and attend all monthly Board of Director meetings providing a detailed report to the Board
o Participate in chamber committees
o Maintain Ocean Pines Visitor Center and assist visitors when they arrive
o Maintain general upkeep on office building, coordinating with landlord on all repairs, additions, leases, subleases, and landscaping
o Maintain integrity and upkeep of chamber computers and software

Position Requirements:


• At least 1 to 3 years of experience in a Chamber of Commerce or closely related environment (example sales/marketing/business development
• Visionary, ability to think strategically to support chamber mission
• Strong communications and public relations skills coupled with the ability to influence others in a positive manner
• Demonstrates “executive presence” in all interactions in the community
• Basic working knowledge of accounting and finance as they relate to the fiscal and financial obligations of the organization, internal accounting controls, and financial analysis of revenues and expenditures
• Ability to supervise personnel in a manner conducive to efficient performance, production, and high morale
• Ability to establish and maintain strong working relationships with others
• Ability to present ideas effectively, both verbally and in writing
• Position may also require heavy lifting up to 50lbs
• Must also have a valid driver’s license

Salary Range: $40,000 - $42,000
