Worcester County has approved a large shopping center at the corner of 50 and 589

SNOW HILL, Md. — A new shopping center in Worcester County is in the works after county officials approved conceptual plans for a massive, 300,000-square-foot retail center around Route 50 and 589.
The shopping center, which is named Coastal Square, is being developed by Seaside Ventures LLC, according to the Worcester County Planning Commission's May 6 agenda packet. The 49-acre property will contain upwards of 300,000 square feet of retail space split up amongst several large and small structures.
The new shopping center is slated to be built at the intersection of Routes 50 and 589 in Worcester County near the Ocean Downs Casino and adjacent to the Ocean Landing shopping center, which already exists on the south side of the highway.
The shopping center would reconfigure the intersection at Routes 50 and 589, according to sketches of the project done by the Becker Morgan Group. The sketches proposes a new turn lane be added to westbound Route 50 and that the traffic patterns on Route 589 be adjusted for the new four-way intersection.
The Worcester County Planning Commission have approved a sketch by the Becker Morgan Group for a new shopping center at Route 50 and Route 589 called Coastal Square Shopping Center.
A traffic study on the four-way intersection has been completed and is being reviewed by the Maryland State Highway Administration, according to the Worcester County Planning Commission.
The proposed site would contain at least two large big box stores and four smaller shopping centers between 20,000 and 41,000 square feet that will have multiple retail bays within them, according to a sketch by the Becker Morgan Group.
